Whether you just want to buy a new product or replace a […]

Whether you just want to buy a new product or replace a worn out part there are many options, it does not relate to the amount of money you spend. Ambrosia stems for example are usually half the cost of carbon stems and the weigh less. If you are getting wider bars to fit your size some alloy bars are lighter than carbon though not as stiff and usually cost the same.

Wheels – the world is your oyster you can go for almost maintenance free to very aerodynamic to incredibly light we can discuss what meets your needs very few wheels are light and aerodynamic and those that do both are usually expensive.

Gearing – Struggling with the terrain, compacts are very popular giving you a wider range to get up anything and you can race, audaux and even tour on them.

There are many areas of upgrades with dozens of manufacturers and many options from each, a good chat can have us going on the right road.

I can build up race bikes to fit your exact specificati […]

I can build up race bikes to fit your exact specification or alter components so that you get a better fit. 90% of the cycles I see need to be altered in some way. Shops usually see you what they’ve got and rarely alter the components to fit, but a bike is like a pet, not just for Christmas. You have to enjoy it feel at one with it and hopefully perform at your maximum potential on it.

If you have already bought the bike, all is not lost it may take a little time and a little money (better if its lots) so that again we can maximise your potential. If you need a 54cm frame and you have been sold a 50cm or 52cm components can be altered to get you where you should be.

A custom build package would cover every aspect, bar width, stem length, height, crank length and gear ratio’s to suit your needs. Also frame material to wheel builds even specific tyres eg Audax/racing. 1800 ask usps . Why not even coordinate with tape, saddle and tyres to match the frame. Lovely!

Even expensive bikes and components can be adjusted or tuned to get the maximum potential from them. Wheels may cost £300 + but are the spokes equally tensioned, is the hub overtightened, there are many variables.

Break efficiency
Brake callipers should not be too close or too far apart, out of saddle riding distorts the wheel which can rub against the blocks when set up too close.

Cable routing
a) is it aerodynamic? Especially coming out of tri bars.
b) Is there excessive cable? Adding drag (in the wind) adding friction (efficiency of the brake) and weight (if your sad).

Bicycle chains
Adding an extra link reduces forward stretch for the rear mech when going to the lower cogs at the back, which reduces wear on the outside of the chain rings and allegedly increases chain life.

Wheel/Hubs
Whether its record or dura ace or mavic e5′s all hubs have to be adjusted for smoother running. Quick release’s exert pressure from the outside to the inside causing axels to bow.

You have the nice bike, you’ve got the nice kit but you could look like a cow riding a skateboard, we can work together to get you pedalling efficiently and punching through the air effectively. Hopefully you’ll go further faster.

Six areas to look at:

• frame size (just because its carbon it doesn’t mean its right.)
• Saddle position
• stem length
• bar width
• crank length
• shoe/pedal position

All of these can be talked through and components or even complete bikes can be individualised at competitive prices.

• Make sure tyres are firmly pumped up.

• Remove all glass and flints from tyres (superglue holes).

• Clean the bike when dirty (easier to spot cracks in the frame and stops components from ceasing).

• Repair problems when they arise don’t wait until the night before an event.

• Always try and upgrade your components especially when worn out or damaged.

• Only oil the chain when the bearings are shiny or it starts to squeal. Too much oil picks up dirt and grit and can increase the wear on chains, rings and cogs.

• Never wear long black socks it did not look good on Armstrong, so why would it look good on you.

• Never, ever, wear underwear, most people are too embarrassed to tell you.

• A good bib short stops heat build up reduces chaffing and lessens infection (saddle sores).
